UST and Kaynes Semicon to Invest ₹3,330 Crore in Gujarat OSAT Facility

India’s semiconductor journey has received a major boost with UST and Kaynes Semicon announcing plans to set up a large Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Gujarat. The proposed project will involve an investment of ₹3,330 crore, positioning the state as a key destination for advanced electronics manufacturing.

The new facility will come up in Sanand, an emerging industrial hub that has been attracting high-value technology investments. Once operational, the plant will focus on chip assembly, advanced packaging, and testing, all of which are critical steps in the semiconductor production value chain.

A Big Step Toward Semiconductor Self-Reliance

While chip fabrication often grabs the spotlight, OSAT facilities play an equally important role by ensuring finished chips meet global quality and performance standards. With this project, India moves closer to reducing its dependence on overseas semiconductor packaging and testing services.

The collaboration brings together UST’s global technology expertise and digital engineering capabilities with Kaynes Semicon’s strong manufacturing foundation in India. Industry experts see this partnership as a strategic blend of innovation and execution, aimed at serving both domestic and international markets.

Boost for Key Technology Sectors

The upcoming OSAT plant is expected to support multiple fast-growing industries, including:

  • Consumer electronics and smart devices
  • Electric vehicles and automotive electronics
  • Telecommunications and 5G infrastructure
  • Renewable energy and industrial automation

By enabling local assembly and testing, the facility can help shorten supply chains, reduce production timelines, and improve cost efficiency for Indian electronics manufacturers.

Economic and Employment Impact

Beyond technology advancement, the project is likely to generate significant employment opportunities, both directly at the facility and indirectly across allied industries such as logistics, equipment supply, and semiconductor services. It also strengthens Gujarat’s position as a preferred destination for high-tech manufacturing investments.

Aligned With National Manufacturing Goals

The OSAT initiative aligns closely with India’s broader vision of building a robust semiconductor ecosystem under national manufacturing and self-reliance programs. As global companies look to diversify their supply chains, India’s growing capabilities in chip manufacturing services could make it a reliable alternative hub.

Looking Ahead

Construction and operational timelines are expected to be finalized soon, with the facility planned to scale operations in phases. Once fully functional, the plant is set to play a key role in India’s ambition to become a global player in the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing landscape.
